Battle Report 84: Tanith, the Feral Song (The Wild Hunt) vs. Amon Ad-Raza

Warmachine Fight Club:

My roommate and I play a fair amount of Warmachine, and it's been really fun to see him grow as a player.

Unfortunately, he's decided that the best way to get us into shape is to make working out connected to Warmachine.

Here's what he's come up with - every time you lose a model, you do a set of sit ups or push ups.

If you lose a:

30 mm - 5 reps
40 mm - 15 reps
50 mm - 30 reps
120 mm - 80 reps

If you win the game - 50 reps.

You can't do the same thing twice in a row, so you have to alternate between the two forms, and you can do any variation on them that you like.

Being as I am an avid Warmachine player and also verrryyy out of shape, this is going to suck.

The Game:

Tonight I got a chance to play my ridiculous Tanith list into Amon Ad-Raza, running a slightly less battlegroup heavy build and including Idrians:

Amon
- Heirophant
- Crusader
- Reckoner
- Reckoner
- Castigator
- Guardian

Punch Monk x2

Choir (max)
Idrians and CA

I was playing my silly Wolf Sworn Tanith list:

Tanith
- Loki
- Wyrd x3
- Moonhound x2

Reeves (max) and CA x2
Wolves (max) and CA

We rolled up Extraction for the Scenario, and I won the roll off. I chose to go first, and my opponent took the side with the hill (the right call).

The Idrians put prey on my newest Woldwyrd, and we were off.

Circle turn 1:

Reeves on the left side ran up to just outside of 16 inches of his Idrians.

On the right, the unit ran up to just behind the forest.

Tanith put Scything Touch on Loki, put Admonition on herself, and moved up.

Everything else moved up.

Menoth turn 1:

The Idrians, outthreatened at every turn and with their mini-feat essentially useless, decided to run and get up on the hill and screen the Punch Monk.

The Choir sings "No Shooting".

The 'Jacks moved up to screen Amon after he cast Synergy and Mobility.

Circle turn 2:

No shooting is a problem for this list, but my opponent had deployed slightly wonky and two of his Jacks weren't going to get the benefit next turn.

I decided this was as good of a turn as any to Ambush my Wolves of Orboros.

Tanith pulled Fury and upkept both spells, and then the Wolves Ambushed on the left side.

They charged in, killing all but four Idrians and repositioning away.

The left Reeves killed the Punch Monk with a massive CRA, and then killed 3 of 4 Idrians.

A Wyrd killed the last one, and the right side of the table just moved up a little bit.

I knew my opponent would likely commit to get three scenario points, but I also felt like I could then kill two of his heavies and contest for the rest of the game.

Menoth turn 2:

Stuff commits. The two Jacks that don't get choir songs go in and clear/control the flag and almost kill the objective.

Fort Amon bunkers up again, and my opponent gets 2 points.

Score 0-2
Advantage Menoth

Circle turn 3:

Time to go! The left Moonhound moves up to engage the Guardian for future Scything Touch silliness.

Loki moves up, warps Strength, and hooks the Reckoner in.

He then misses 3 attacks.

The left Reeves CRA the Reckoner down to about 10 boxes, and the first Wyrd finishes off the 'Jack.

Tanith moves up, Feats, puts Scything Touch on the Moonhound and shoots the Guardian with her gun. She hits, and then casts Affliction on him.

The remaining Wyrds kill him pretty handily and then the Reeves on the right CRA the Punch Monk to death.

The Wolves move around the forest to engage some Choir and be ready to pop mini-feat and charge next turn with the CA hiding behind the little forest.

Score 0-2
Advantage Menoth

Menoth turn 3:

My opponent sees the writing on the wall and decides to just inflict maximum sit up and push up pain on me.

Amon kills some wolves, the Crusader kills some Reeves.

I lose a Moonhound to the Castigator and then lose Loki and the objective to the Reckoner.

My opponent gets another point.

Score 0-3
Advantage Menoth

Circle turn 4:

Tanith moves up and cranks her hit roll, Shadow Binding Amon.

The Wolves pop mini-feat and charge in, the first attack taking the Warcaster down.

Victory for the Druids!

Post-Game Thoughts:

If I want this list to play into Menoth, I really, really need a Pureblood.

I really should have dropped my Baldur 2 list, but I still don't have my second Woldwrath painted up, and I didn't want to use my borrowed one. I expect that with better choir deployment, this game goes a lot worse for me.

I must say though, this list is silly fun to play, an entire ambushing weaponmaster unit is AWESOME and having two units of Reeves means that the world is pretty much gonna die.

At the end of the match, I had lost 6 small based models, 1 medium, 2 large, and won the game, for a grand total of 155 reps of various things. Ughhh.

Battle Report 69 - Kaya 3 vs. Amon Ad-Raza

Prologue:

I have beaten this Amon list exactly never, and I was excited to have a chance to tear through his Jacks as easily as he tears through my beasts.

Up until recently (Feb 22 to be exact), I don't think Circle even had a chance in this matchup. Loki completely changed that, since now I can force him to come to me and pick off heavies one at a time.

I am practicing my Kaya 3 list for ATC in this battle report:

Kaya 3
- Loki
- Stalker
- Pureblood
- Feral
- Argus

Blackclad x2
Gobber Chef

Sentry Stone x2
Shifting Stones

And minor point of pride - I was playing fully painted (if not quite fully based), aw yeah.

My opponent's list was:

Amon
- Heirophant
- Blood of Martyrs
- Hand of Judgment
- Reckoner x2
- Crusader

Punch Monk

Max Choir

I lost the roll off and had to go second.

I chose the side with the wall, since that was basically the make or break piece of terrain on the table.

Look at all the heavies....

Menoth turn 1:

My opponent's choir placement here cost him, as he had to keep the jacks from running full distance in order to get any songs the next turn.

Fortify goes on the Crusader, Synergy on Amon. Punch Monk does his thing, and everyone moves up.

Circle turn 1:

It is premeasured that the Punch Monk can't contest my flag and go Shifting Sands next turn, and that the Crusader can't charge anything on my side of the wall since his base would end up on the wall.

With that in mind I set up to murder it if it comes to contest.

Kaya puts Synergy up and moves to the flag. Feral and Argus go right, Pureblood and Loki go left.

The Stalker stays right in the middle.

Menoth turn 2:

My opponent thinks about his turn for a second, and then decides to jam two heavies down my throat and setup for the counterpunch. He upkeeps both spells.

He plans to charge Blood in, Side Step twice, kill a Sentry Stone, and make me deal with him.

He's also going to put his Crusader in contesting range of the Flag.

Blood charges in and...misses his first attack. He kills the Mannikin with his second, and then backs up a smidge.

Crusader and Punch Monk both come in, and his Jacks pile in behind. Hand sprays Loki for a few damage. All of the Jacks except the Crusader get "no spells" on them.

Circle turn 2:

Okay the plan is to....kill Blood with the Feral, kill Hand with Loki and Stalker, and kill the Crusader with the Pureblood under Kaya's feat.

I premeasure carefully to also ensure that I can get my Gobber Chef to pull off Hot Meal on two heavies at the beginning of my next turn.

I upkeep Synergy.

Gobber Chef runs into the middle, and the Blackclad moves into melee with the Crusader on the left, hitting it with Hunters Mark.

Kaya moves around the flag, dings the Crusader to start the Synergy Chain, and then Feats, casts Wraithbane on the Pureblood, and Repositions back to the Flag.

Synergy 1.

The Argus charges and Combo Strikes Blood for 8 or so damage. The Feral goes in and murders blood with initials. Both reposition back at end of their activations.

Synergy 3.

Loki gets ported up and hooks Hand of Judgment, killing him.

The Pureblood goes into the Crusader and....rolls 4 for damage four times in a row, leaving the Jack on life support. I try to kill it with Mannikin sprays, but it won't die, and I can't get the Stalker in to do anything, so he backs up.

I do kill the Vassal though!

No scenario points :(

The right side Blackclad contests the flag, taking a potshot at Amon and doing 5 damage.

Menoth turn 3:

Amon upkeeps Synergy but drops Fortify. He goes first, pops his Feat, Fortifies the right hand Reckoner, and charges the Blackclad, boosting to hit and killing it.

Synergy 1.

The left side Reckoner boosts a shot into the Feral, flaring him.

The Castigator charges Loki, but leaves him on one.

The Crusader does next to nothing, and the Right Reckoner fails to kill the Pureblood.

Circle turn 3:

I pull off Hot Meal on two of my beasts thanks to placing Mannikins, and nothing frenzies.

I put the Feral into the Castigator, but I forgot about Fortify so he ends his activation by putting Primal on the Stalker.

The Stalker gets ported up, kills the Castigator and...doesn't kill the Reckoner, but does cripple his club.

The Pureblood kills the Crusader easily.

Kaya heals Loki and moves to the right.

The Argus moves away from the Reckoner, and my opponent rolls the single dice hard six he needs and does a few damage into him.

The Argus moves up and casts Doppler Bark on Amon. He then Combo Strikes him, boosting damage at PS 19, and kills him, robbing Loki of his kill.

Victory for the Druids!

Post-Game Thoughts:

Not going first in this matchup sucks.

I was lucky in two ways - 1) there was an awesome wall on my side of the table and 2) my opponent messed his deployment and first turn up by not running the choir full tilt at me so that his jacks could have been up the board.

Very interesting game, I'm sure I'll be playing it again sometime soon.

Battle Report 43, Bellingham Masters Round 3: 2Una vs. Amon Ad-Raza

The three undefeated players after round 2 were myself, my friend, and a Canadian gentleman playing Ret.

The Ret player got the pair-down, so I found myself looking at Reznik 2 and Amon Ad-Raza, which was a list that my friend had specifically brought to handle me.

Amon
Pile of Jacks
Choir
Punch Monks

..... Oh you want the real list? Okay hold on I gotta look all the Menoth jacks' names up.

Amon
- Reckoner x2
- Crusader x2
- Scourge of Heresy
- Dervish
- Vigilant

Choir (min) x2
Alegiant of the Order of the Fist x2
Nicia
Wrack

And here's the Una 2 list again:

Una the Skyhunter - WB: +29
 -    Druid Wilder - PC: 4
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 5)
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8
 -    Scarsfell Griffon - PC: 8
 -    Gorax Rager - PC: 7
 -    Pureblood Warpwolf - PC: 17
Swamp Gobber Chef - PC: 1
Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress - PC: 3
 Shifting Stones - Leader & 2 Grunts: 3
 Shifting Stones - Leader & 2 Grunts: 3
 Sentry Stone & Mannikins - Leader & 3 Grunts: 5
 Sentry Stone & Mannikins - Leader & 3 Grunts: 5

I dropped Una. Reznik and Amon are both TERRIBLE matchups for Wurmwood.

We were playing Incursion and I won the roll off and went first.

My opponent counter-deployed:

Look at Nicia hiding behind that house.
Circle turn 1:

So my game plan for this game was basically to kill off Nicia, and then send a Griffon over to hang out on the right flag and just use that to win the game while we fought in the middle. I could also send the Gobber Chef if I needed the Griffon.

With that in mind, everything basically just ran. The Pureblood got Mirage and the Sentry Stones got Hand of Fate again.

Menoth turn 1:

My opponent advanced his Punch Monks into Shifting Sands Stance.

His army ran up so that it was 13 inches away from my front line and got immunity to spells from the Choir.

Amon cast Synergy and Fortify and advanced to behind the wall.

He's on the left side next to the Vigilant.
Circle turn 2:

I did some premeasuring and realized I could get 4 Hand of Fate Sentry Stone sprays on him AND an assault from the Pureblood. (Him here is Amon).

Math time!

Amon is 16/14 with 17 boxes and is camping 2 Focus.

Sentry Stone Mannikins need 12s to hit a 16, but with Hand of Fate that's actually slightly better than a coin flip for me. At dice off 4, a boosted Hand of Fate POW 10 spray does 8.5 damage, or 3.5 after Focus negation. Call it 3 for easy sake.

If I don't get to boost the second damage roll, it's going to to do 5 on average, or 0 after Focus negation.

After the first Mannikin unit, Amon should be on 0 camp with 3 damage on him.

The second unit should then go in and do 8.5 and 5, for a total of 14.5 damage before the Pureblood goes in. If I spike a little high, he's dead there.

The Pureblood needs a boosted 11 to hit ( a coin flip ) and is straight dice.

Well, I decide to go for it. If it works, I win. If it doesn't, he gets my Pureblood and has 2 coin flips to kill my Sentry Stones with Reckoner shots, but then Amon is probably pretty banged up and has to play super scared.

The Mannikins all spray and whiff their damage rolls pretty hard, leaving him on ten health.

I'm already pretty committed, so I clear out the pathway for the Pureblood who assaults in, gets the 11 to hit exactly and then rolls 10 for damage, killing Amon.

Victory for the Druids!

Post Game Thoughts:

That was really cheeky of me, but I really didn't want to spend the mental energy playing against this list if there was going to be a round four, so I went for it.

Turns out, the Ret player had terrible dice and lost to the minions player I'd played the previous round, so this game was the finals and I won the whole event!

Overall I had a great time, the venue was nice, the PG was excellent, and my opponents were all good sports and nice to work with.

Of course...then we found out after driving 2 hours back that the pass was closed, so we ended up going on a massive drive around the entire mountain range to get back to the Dry Side of the state over the next day and a half, but hey, that was fun too!

Thanks for reading ;)
